Entertainment venues (Rockhampton) - Queensland

Service summary

You need this licence to establish or operate an entertainment venue. An entertainment venue includes a building, room, garden or other place that is open to the public for entertainment. It does not include a shop or licensed premises.

Councils licence entertainment venues to:

  • ensure that entertainment venues comply with appropriate standards of health and safety
  • protect the amenity of areas in which entertainment venues are situated
  • regulate the use of public entertainment venues, as well as the activities conducted there.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Definition of terms

Outdoor concert venue

means a place open to the public with the facility for amplified music to be played outdoors.

Public entertainment venue

means a place that is open to the public for entertainment whether or not payment is required for admission, whether or not the management reserves the right to exclude individual members of the public but does not include a shop.

The term includes:

  • outdoor concert venue
  • cinema; theatre
  • concert hall
  • billiard hall
  • electronic games centre
  • indoor sports centre (including bowling alleys)
  • art gallery
  • museum
  • bazaar or fairground
  • circus
  • venue used for a festival, street parade or outdoor sporting event
  • premises where any display or exhibition is conducted.

Transferability

Development Approvals are not transferable.

Additional information

Temporary entertainment events come under Subordinate Local Law 1.12 (Operation of Temporary Entertainment Events).

You can obtain a permit for temporary events on council land by completing a Temporary Event Application and submitting it to council, or on private land by completing an application for Temporary Event on Private Land.
