Why the Support is Provided?

The Energy and Water Ombudsman Queensland's aim is to provide you with complaint investigation and dispute resolution services and, if necessary, mediation and determination in disputes.

What Support is Provided?

The Energy and Water Ombudsman Queensland provides you with complaint investigation and dispute resolution services and, if necessary, mediation and determination in disputes between an electricity gas or water entity and a customer about the performance of a function or exercise of a power under the Energy and Water Ombudsman Act 2006.

The Energy and Water Ombudsman may also investigate, mediate or conciliate in the dispute at the request of any party to a dispute with a view to the parties reaching agreement on the resolution of their dispute.

Definition of terms

Energy and Water Ombudsman

Under the Energy and Water Ombudsman Act 2006 the Energy and Water Ombudsman is head of the Office of Energy and Water Ombudsman.

Eligibility requirements

A customer to a dispute must be a small customer as defined in the Electricity Act 1994 and Gas Supply Act 2003 and South East Queensland Water (Distribution and Restructuring) Act 2009.

Additional information

Participation in dispute resolution processes by a consumer is voluntary. A consumer is not prevented from exercising other rights before a court or tribunal.
