Domestic water distribution licence (Logan) - Queensland

Service summary

Water carriers fit into two distinct categories:

  • those that carry potable (drinking) water and
  • those that carry non-potable (not for drinking) water.

Potable Water

Water carriers transporting drinking water are regulated under the Food Act 2006 and require a food business licence from Council. Contact the Water Business Branch of council for approved potable water filling locaitons and application for metered standpipe.

Non-Potable Water

Water carriers transporting water for non-drinking purposes are regulated under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. Contact Workplace Health and Safety Queensland for more information.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Definition of terms

Domestic purposes

means the purpose of:

human consumption;
food preparation;
other normal domestic activities.

Domestic water distribution

means the transportation of water by water tanker; or to a person (whether that person is within the local government area or not) who is using the water for human consumption, food preparation, washing or other normal domestic activities; or distributing the water to a person referred to in the paragraph above.


Your licence is renewed annually and attracts an annual fee.
