This licence is required if you are conducting commercial fishing charters with at least one boat of any size in offshore waters.
Offshore waters are defined in the Fisheries Regulation 2008 as tidal waters that are at least 2m deep at low water.
However, they do not include waters in:
- a river or creek upstream of a line across its banks at low water; or
- an inlet.
A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
Definition of terms
- Recreational fisher
a person who is carrying out recreational fishing.
This licence is ongoing while fees are paid.
You can obtain this licence by submitting a completed Application for charter fishing licence to Fisheries Queensland.
You can transfer this licence by returning a completed application to Register transfer of charter fishing licence and the application fee.
Please note that regional offices do not accept completed applications with fees. However they do have the range of application forms for distribution.
