You require this licence to examine second hand motor vehicles for the issuing of safety certificates and certificates of inspection.
A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
Prerequisites to obtain this accreditation are listed on the Information Sheet for Approved Examiners available for viewing or download from the department's website.
Accreditation is approved for a period of up to 5 years. The standard duration is 3 years, however factors such as compliance history or criminal history can result in a one year accreditation (or refusal) and can be revoked through the courts, or by the Director General, as an outcome of show cause proceedings.
You can obtain this licence by completing an "Approved Examiner Application/Nomination" Form (F2339) and submitting it with the payment for the relevant fees at a customer service centre. For information on the location of your near customer service entre, please contact the call centre.

You must submit certified copies of your driver licence and qualifications with your application.
After applying but before approval is granted the following is required:
- results of criminal history check must be returned - if positive results are returned these will be assessed against the Suitable Person Policy
- examinations must be passed.
This licence cannot be transferred.
Once you are licensed as an Approved Examiner you may transfer from site to site by completing an "Approved Examiner Application/Nomination Form" (F2339) and submitting it to the department.
