Your council or local authority regulates the use of public areas and roads in order to:
- provide for appropriate public access for active and passive recreation
- protect the safety of persons using local government areas and roads
- preserve features of the natural and built environment and other aspects of amenity.
Your council or local authority may:
- prohibit you from bringing animals, or animals of a specified species, into an area
- grant you an approval to occupy and use a specified part of an area.
If you plan to hold personal training sessions or a community event, you will need to have public liability insurance to the value of $20 million.
Certain conditions may be placed on your approval, such as:
- making periodic payments to the council or local authority
- making facilities installed under the approval available for use by the public at specified times or other specified periods
- taking specified precautions to protect the safety of persons who enter the land subject to the approval
- proper maintenance of equipment and facilities
- holding specified public liability insurance cover.
