Motor dealer (wrecker) licence - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to work as a motor dealer (wrecker). You can apply for this licence as an individual or corporation. This licence allows you to:

  • obtain used motor vehicles, in parts or whole, to sell as parts
  • sell acquired used motor vehicles as parts.

This licence does not allow you to:

  • sell complete vehicles
  • auction any vehicles, parts or other goods unless you hold a chattel auctioneer licence.

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be a suitable person
  • pass the required training courses.

A criminal history check must be done for each person whose date and place of birth are stated on the application form.

You may be eligible to be licensed under mutual recognition laws if you hold a comparable licence within another Australian state or territory or within New Zealand.

Application process

You will need to submit either:

  • Form 1-1
  • Form 1-2.

Your individual licence application must include:

  • an application fee
  • a licence issue fee
  • a criminal history check fee for each person whose date and place of birth appear on the application
  • a certified copy of your birth certificate, birth certificate extract, passport, Australian citizenship certificate or driver licence. Proof of identity can be certified by a justice of the peace, commissioner for declarations, barrister, solicitor or notary public
  • pass the required training modules.

Approval time

Processing time is between 4 and 6 weeks

Transfer

You cannot transfer this licence to another entity.

Disqualified persons or entities

You are not suitable to hold this licence if you:

  • are currently disqualified from holding a licence or registration certificate
  • have been convicted within the past 5 years of a serious offence
  • are subject to a court issued control order because of involvement in serious criminal activity.
