Pork Industry Extension Service - Queensland

Service summary

To assist pig producers and associated industries to lift productivity and consequently profitability of Qld's agricultural businesses and to attain environmental sustainability in meeting consumer and community expectations.

The Department provides advice and assistance to pig producers and associated industries in the following ways:

  • advice on production and piggery management (establishing a piggery, nutrition, genetics, husbandry, housing, monitoring performance) through web site, workshops, visiting speakers and computer programs/models
  • supply chain partnerships facilitation, trade and business assistance
  • advice on environmental issues relevant to establishing and operating piggeries
  • monitors industry opportunities and problems and may develop processes to address these with industry
  • policy support for industry development
  • biosecurity support; support for safe, clean food production and for animal welfare.

The Department's Extension Officers will direct clients towards seminars, workshops, other educational material and external service providers.

Eligibility requirements

The Pig Industry service sees its clients as pig producers and associated businesses such as pig industry consultants and agribusiness which make up the pork supply chain primarily in Queensland.


No fees apply for verbal and web site advice. In general, there are charges for books, booklets, CDs, computer packages, seminars, some workshops, private research, specific consultancies on major projects and other activities such as computer modelling.

The Customer Service Centre provides general information and directs enquiries to the appropriate contact officer.
