Description

An Indigenous fishing permit allows an Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander person or community to trial a commercial fishing activity, without first holding the standard commercial fishing licences.

Before you apply for this permit you must:

  • read the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander commercial fishing development policy
  • contact Fisheries Queensland to discuss your proposed commercial fishing activity.

To apply for this permit, you must:

  • complete the Indigenous fishing permit application
  • provide all information requirements, including:
    • a business plan
    • proof you are an Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander
    • a sustainability statement
    • a statement about the economic benefits
    • support from the Traditional Owners or native title holders in the area you want to fish.
