Retail Tobacco Merchant's Licence - South Australia

Service summary

All Tobacco Retailers in South Australia must hold a Retail Tobacco Merchant's Licence and display a copy of the licence next to each point of sale.

Retailers with more than one retail outlet selling tobacco must hold a separate tobacco licence for each of these outlets.

A Tobacco Product is anything that contains tobacco or is designed for the purpose of smoking tobacco, e.g. herbal cigarettes, filters and cigarette papers.

A prescribed notice must be on display next to each point of sale.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.


Renewed annually. These licences are not transferable or refundable.
