Permit to Sell Protected Animals - Kangaroo Meat Processor (Carcasses and Skins) (Class 7) - South Australia

Service summary

This permit enables the holder to process the carcasses and skins of kangaroos and trade in kangaroo products, including those which are for human consumption.

All kangaroo carcasses purchased or received must have been taken in accordance with the National Parks & Wildlife Act 1972 and Regulations. Carcasses from interstate must be legally acquired under an approved kangaroo management program.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Applicant must be a resident of South Australia. Applications should be made by either the Public Officer of the company or the Managing Director.

Applicants must have a comprehensive knowledge of the National Parks and Wildlife (Kangaroo Harvesting) Regulations 2003 and the National Parks and Wildlife (Wildlife) Regulations 2001 under the National Parks & Wildlife Act, 1972.

All kangaroos harvested in South Australia under the National Parks & Wildlife Act, must be taken in accordance with the National Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos and Wallabies for Commercial Purposes (available from Department of of Environment, Canberra).


Permits expire on 30 June; The 1, 3 or 5 year options available if lodged and processed between 1 July and 31 December; The half-year fee is only for new applications lodged on or after 1 January.


Class 7 Permit: half year - $1,146
Class 7 Permit: full year - $2,088 (3 years - $6,264, 5 years - $10,440)
