Persons intending to perform artificial breeding procedures on livestock (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, horses) must be registered.
Artificial breeding procedures means:
(a) veterinary procedures directed at fertilisation of livestock ova by artificial means including
- artificial insemination;
- collection of livestock embryos and implantation in other livestock;
- in vitro fertilisation;
(b) collecting, processing, handling, storing or distributing livestock semen, ova or embryos for the purposes of such procedures.
Registered veterinary surgeons, who work in a licensed artificial breeding centre, do not require registration.
A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
The term of a Registration to Perform Artificial Breeding Procedures is until 30 June in the third year after its grant; Renewal of registration is for three years.
