Permit to Install, Maintain or Repair Fire Protection Equipment - Tasmania

Service summary

You will require this permit if you intend to install, maintain or repair fire protection equipment. There are two classes of permit:

  • Portable Fire Protection Equipment: covering fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, fire hydrants, hydrant valves, fire blankets
  • Fire Protection Systems: covering fire and smoke detection and alarm systems, automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire extinguishing systems, smoke management systems and emergency warning and inter-communication systems.

Once issued, permits legally allow you to install, maintain or repair all fire protection equipment specified in the scope of the relevant permit.

Your completed application form must be supported by copies of a Statement of Attainment for each unit of competency that you have completed.

If applying for a 'system' permit, referee reports must be provided.

Fire Protection System: 4 to 6 weeks; Fire Protection Equipment: 5 working days.
