Description

You will need to carry out the following If you intend to install a new underground petroleum storage system:

  • ensure the mandatory equipment is installed
  • conduct an equipment integrity test (EIT) before use
  • submit the Notification of a New Storage System Form.

Underground petroleum storage systems (UPSS) are underground tanks and associated structures with the purpose of storing petroleum products, such as petrol, diesel, ethanol fuels, waste oil, or aviation fuel.

After you have installed your new UPSS, you will need to conduct ongoing loss monitoring. This ensures the early detection of leaks in an effort to reduce harm to the environment and human health.

If you intend to replace an old storage system with a new storage system, you will need to follow the decommissioning requirements for the old storage system.
