Asbestos Removal Licence - Tasmania

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to carry out the removal of asbestos or asbestos-containing materials. There are two classes of licence:

  • class A licence: will authorise you to remove both friable and non-friable asbestos, and asbestos-contaminated dust (ACD)
  • class B licence: will authorise you to remove non-friable asbestos or ACD associated with the removal of non-friable asbestos.

A licence is not required to remove less than 10 metres of non-friable asbestos but it must be undertaken in accordance with the relevant code of practice.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Exemptions

You may not be required to apply for this licence if you hold an equivalent licence in another State or Territory.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • provide evidence that you and each nominated supervisor is18 years old and have completed the appropriate course
  • complete the relevant application form
  • pay the required fees.

For a Class A licence, each competent supervisor must have at least 3 years of relevant industry experience, and have completed the relevant VET course for supervising asbestos removal. For a Class B licence, each competent supervisor must have at least 1 year of relevant industry experience, and have completed the relevant VET course for supervising asbestos removal.

You must give written notice to the Agency at least 5 days before undertaking asbestos removal work (other than in the event of an emergency).
