Plumbing Practitioner's Licence - Tasmania

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to undertake plumbing work.

Plumbing work includes installing, altering, maintaining or disconnecting a plumbing installation such as refrigeration, sanitary plumbing and drainage, stormwater drainage, water services, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, hydraulic, liquid fuel, medical gas or pneumatic.

There are two types of plumbing practitioner licences:

  • plumber practitioner licence: holders cannot self-certify their own work
  • plumber practitioner (certifier) licence: holders can self-certify and certify the work of others.

The plumbing practitioner licence can be granted on a provisional basis, where the practitioner is licensed for a period of less than twelve months to undertake one or more classes of plumbing work.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be a fit and proper person
  • possess the required qualifications (relevant Certificate III for Plumber Practitioner, and a relevant Certificate III and relevant Certificate IV for Plumber Practitioner (Certifier))
  • submit all relevant documentation and pay the prescribed fees.
