You will require this licence if you intend operate as a motor vehicle trader. Motor vehicle trading includes buying, selling or exchanging more than six vehicles in a twelve month period. This licence applies to trading in both new and used motor vehicles. You will not require this licence if you:
- Provide finances for motor vehicle trading;
- Purchase motor vehicles for the purpose of dismantling them;
- Sell motor vehicles by auction on behalf of their owners;
- Operate a park and sell business;
- Collect motor vehicles; or
- Operate as a motor vehicle trader on a wholesale basis.
Employees of a motor vehicle trader are not required to obtain this licence. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
To be eligible for this licence you must:
- Be considered a fit and proper person to hold the licence;
- Be at least 18 years old;
- Be willing to comply with any conditions placed on your licence; and
- Complete and lodge an application form, accompanied by all required documents.
