Service summary

You will require a certificate of likely compliance before performing notifiable building, plumbing or demolition work and building, plumbing or demolition permit work. Permit work is classified as high-risk work and requires the issuing of a permit, yet notifiable work does not and is classified as medium-risk work.

A certificate of likely compliance is a statement obtained from the relevant authority. It certifies that the proposed work is likely to meet the requirements of the Building Code of Australia and will comply with relevant legislation.

Eligibility requirements

When issuing a certificate of likely compliance, the relevant authority may take into account the following:

  • Whether the work was performed in accordance with legislation by a licensed practitioner; or
  • Whether the work was inspected in accordance with legislation by the qualified authority.
