You will require this licence if you intend to use radiation apparatus. Radiation apparatus are apparatus that produce radiation when energised, or is, if assembled or repaired, capable of producing radiation when energised.
Examples of apparatus include x-ray machines, lasers or radio frequency heaters. You must obtain this licence before obtaining or purchasing radiation apparatus equipment.
The place in which the radiation apparatus is housed and where you intend to carry out your radiation practice must also comply with relevant radiation safety standards. The place must be issued with a certificate of compliance (place) that needs to accompany a certificate of registration.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
To be eligible for this licence, you must:
- Submit the relevant application form;
- Satisfy the authorising Agency that you can use radiation apparatus equipment, and that you understand and will comply with the relevant legislation;
- Supply the names of all users of a licensed apparatus; and
- Pay the required fees.
