Liquor Licence - On Licence - Tasmania

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to provide alcohol for sale for consumption on your premises, with or without the sale of an accompanying meal. This licence authorises the selling of liquor between 5am and 12 midnight daily. It is usually issued to nightclubs, bars and restaurants.

If you intend to sell liquor for consumption off the licensed premises for specific occasions or events (such as street dining), you will need an off permit. If you intend to sell liquor between the hours of 12 midnight and 5am, you will need an out-of-hours permit.

If you are planning to allow patrons to BYO (bring their own) alcohol, please consult your local council for compliance issues.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be a fit and proper person
  • ensure your associates must be considered to be fit and proper people
  • undertake Responsible Service of Alcohol training
  • be able to exercise effective control over the service, and any consumption, of liquor on the premises for which the licence is sought
  • give public notice of the application in a form approved by the Commissioner.

  • you may need to supply further information (e.g. plans or specifications of any relevant premises, information about any associates, etc.) with your application
  • your application could be forwarded to the Commissioner of Police regarding you, or your associates', status as fit and proper people.

If the Agency is satisfied that the applicant is qualified to hold a liquor licence, the application will be referred to the Licensing Board for final determination. An applicant will usually need to attend the Board's hearing regarding their application.
