You will require this authorisation if in the course of your business or undertakings you intend to manufacture, obtain, possess, sell, supply or use certain prescribed dangerous poisons.
A prescribed dangerous poison is defined as a dangerous poison to which conditions apply. For a list of these poisons please refer to Appendix J of the Uniform Standard.
The Uniform Standard is the National guideline used for making decisions regarding the classification of medicines and chemicals in various schedules. It also determines provisions for containers, labelling requirements and other recommended controls.
Certain conditions may relate to the granting of this approval, including:
- The quantity of the prescribed poison;
- Storage and security requirements for the prescribed poison; and
- Disposal of the prescribed poison.
This licensing requirement does not apply if your business or undertaking is deemed a major hazard facility.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
To be eligible for this authorisation, you must:
- Complete the appropriate form and pay the specified fee;
- Provide evidence of your legitimate need to use a prescribed dangerous poison;
- Be a fit and proper person; and
- Provide any other information the Agency requires.
