Service summary

The State of Tasmania has been declared a genetically modified (GMO) free area. Therefore, you will require a permit if you intend to deal with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) within Tasmania.

GMO's are organisms that have been modified by using gene technology to produce certain desirable characteristics. Gene technology involves the modification of organisms by the direct incorporation (or deletion) of one or more genes to introduce or alter characteristics of organisms.
