Dangerous Goods Drivers Licence - Tasmania

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to transport dangerous goods by road or rail. You will only need this licence if the amount of dangerous goods exceeds:

  • 500 litres or kilograms for a container Class 2-9
  • 3000 litres for an IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container for Class 2-9 where not filled or emptied on the vehicle)
  • risk category 2 of the Australian Explosives Code for Class 1 (Explosives).

The vehicle used to transport such goods must also be licensed.

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • satisfy the medical criteria
  • have successfully complete a recognised driver training course
  • have evidence of a good driving record for the 5 years before you apply
  • ensure that the vehicle is also licensed
  • have not been found guilty of an offence that makes you unsuitable to be the driver of a vehicle transporting dangerous goods
  • have not had your drivers licence cancelled or suspended on grounds that makes you unsuitable to be the driver of a vehicle transporting dangerous goods.
