Fireworks Display Permit - Tasmania

Service summary

You will require this permit if you intend to purchase and use Type 2 or theatrical fireworks for a fireworks display, or you are a licensed pyrotechnician intending to use Type 3 fireworks for a fireworks display.

You are allowed to procure or use a maximum gross weight of less than 20 kilograms of Type 2 fireworks. Please note that you are not required to hold a shot firing permit if you only intend to use Type 2 fireworks.

Please note that this permit does not enable you to purchase Type 3 fireworks, unless you are a pyrotechnician. A pyrotechnician is a person who holds a shot-firing permit with a pyrotechnics endorsement.

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

In order to be eligible for this permit you must:

  • complete an application and attach any required documentation
  • nominate a responsible adult and alternate responsible adult (if you are a corporation)
  • nominate a pyrotechnician (if you are planning on using Type 3 or theatrical fireworks)
  • be a fit and proper person
  • demonstrate that the fireworks display is for an approved purpose (for example, New Year's Eve celebrations, cultural celebrations, or a finale to a major sporting or recreational event)
  • not hold the event on a total fire ban day
  • pay the prescribed fees.
