Vehicle Registration - Tasmania

Description

You must ensure that vehicles used or parked on public streets that you are the registered operator for are registered. Vehicles include:

  • cars
  • motor bikes
  • vans
  • trucks
  • trailers.

Registered operators may be a body corporate or an individual, and they are recorded in the register as being responsible for the vehicle. Importantly being recorded in the register does not prove ownership of the vehicle. The responsibilities of registered operators include:

  • payment of vehicle fees and charges
  • related fines and / or sanctions, unless it can be proven that the registered operator was not using the vehicle at the time of the offence
  • ensuring the roadworthiness of the vehicle
  • notifying the Registrar of any changes to the recorded details.

You have up to three months to establish Tasmanian registration of your vehicle if it is registered in another state or territory.
