Petroleum Pipeline Licence - Tasmania

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to construct, alter or operate a petroleum pipeline in the Tasmanian coastal area. Tasmanian coastal waters extend for three nautical miles from the coastline of Tasmania. If you intend to undertake petroleum activities outside this area, you will need to apply for a licence under the appropriate Act.

This licence is also required for pumping stations, tank stations or valve stations, as well as secondary lines or water lines.

A pipeline licence authorises you to construct a pipeline according to set specifications, and associated infrastructure. It also authorises you to operate that infrastructure.

Before you commence operating, constructing, modifying or decommissioning a pipeline you will also need to nominate a person who has responsibility for the day-to-day management and control of the pipeline as operator. This person must be registered with the relevant Authority.

Please note that consent of the relevant Authority is required before you commence construction or operation of your pipeline.
