Manufacturing and Wholesale Chemists Licence - Tasmania

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to act as a wholesale or manufacturing chemist. Manufacturing chemists are authorised, at the place stated in the licence, to make or refine for sale:

  • Scheduled substances in general;
  • A specified class or specified classes of scheduled substances; or
  • Scheduled substances other than a specified class.

Wholesale chemists are authorised, at the place stated in the licence, to buy and sell:

  • Scheduled substances in general;
  • A specified class or specified classes of scheduled substances; or
  • Scheduled substances other than a specified class.

A scheduled substance is one that is specified in any of the schedules of the poisons list which can be found in the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Medicines and Poisons (SUSMP).

Please note that if you are applying for a manufacturing licence and you intend to manufacture narcotics, you must also be licensed by the Commonwealth.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • Apply using the prescribed form;
  • Supply information specifying the substances to be manufactured or refined for sale;
  • Hold the appropriate qualifications;
  • State your full name and the place at which you propose to carry on your business; and
  • Supply any other information required by the Agency.

Up to twelve months.

Expiry

Licences expire on 31 December each year.
