Notification of a Prescribed Funeral Business - Tasmania

Service summary

If you intend to carry on a prescribed business, such as a crematorium, cemetery or funeral parlour, then you must notify the Director of Local Government at least one month prior to the commencement of your business.

The legislation defines a prescribed business as one which:

  • handles, stores or transports human remains
  • is involved in the preparation of human remains for interment or cremation.

Any equipment that is operated in a crematorium must comply with any guidelines issued by the Director of Local Government.
