Restricted Electrical Licence - Tasmania

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to undertake limited electrical work which is incidental to your principal function in the workplace. For example, this licence is required for the disconnection and reconnection of electrical equipment for repair. There are numerous categories of licence, including:

  • refrigeration and air conditioning
  • instrumentation
  • electronics
  • water heaters
  • pre-assembled neon signs
  • composite equipment
  • control devices
  • gas appliances
  • motors
  • explosion protection equipment.

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be willing to comply with the relevant eligibility, industry regulations and guidelines
  • be appropriately trained and competent for the task specified
  • provide copies of any interstate equivalent licenses or certificates of trade qualifications
  • hold appropriate current professional indemnity insurance
  • demonstrate a need to obtain a restricted licence (by a submission from you or your employer)
  • show relevant on-the-job experience
  • pay any required fees.

Applicants who hold the necessary qualifications / experience may not be required to undertake the licensing assessment.
