You will require this accreditation if you intend to install or repair Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel systems in motor vehicles. This accreditation exists to ensure CNG fuel systems are installed safely.
All CNG installations must comply with the requirements of Australian Standard AS/NZS 2739 and be fitted with an acceptable natural gas compliance plate. Compliance plates are only issued to Victorian businesses that are registered with the Automotive Alternative Fuels Registration Board (AAFRB).
Accreditation with the AAFRB allows you to carry out CNG conversions, service and repair work on motor vehicles in AAFRB registered workshops. Restricted accreditation is also available, which authorises you to perform service and repair work only on CNG fuel systems in AAFRB registered workshops.
Repair work means work that involves opening the high pressure CNG lines to the atmosphere.
A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
In order to be eligible for accreditation you must:
- Have adequate CNG Industry work experience;
- Be suitably trade qualified;
- Complete the relevant CNG training package;
- Submit the required documentation; and
- Pay any required fees.
Please consult the Automotive Alternative Fuels Registration Board for further information.
You will need to notify the AAFRB in writing of any change to your address, and must keep adequate records as specified by the AAFRB.
Accreditation must be renewed annually.
