Registration of a Pharmacy Depot - Victoria

Service summary

You will require this registration if you intend to operate a pharmacy depot. A pharmacy depot is a depot where customers can drop off prescriptions, and pick up dispensed medications.

The purpose of pharmacy depots is to provide services within a smaller rural centre that do not have stand-alone pharmacies. They function as a secure drop-off point to which prescription medicines can be sent for collection by patients, and in some instances, a pharmacist can also sell schedule 2 drugs from a pharmacy depot when he or she is not present.

The depot must be operated by a nearby licensed pharmacy, to which it is connected by an audio-visual link. It must be located at least 15km from the nearest pharmacy. Registration will be revoked in the event that a pharmacy is set up within 15km of the depot.

Please consult the responsible agency for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
