Registration of a Pharmacy Depot - Victoria

Description

You will need this registration to operate a pharmacy depot. A pharmacy depot is a depot where customers can drop off prescriptions, and pick up dispensed medications.

The purpose of pharmacy depots is to provide services within a smaller rural centre that do not have stand-alone pharmacies. They function as a secure drop-off point to which prescription medicines can be sent for collection by patients, and in some instances, a pharmacist can also sell schedule 2 drugs from a pharmacy depot when he or she is not present.

The depot must be operated by a licensed pharmacy. It must be located at least 15km from the nearest pharmacy.

Eligibility requirements

You will be eligible to apply for this registration if the proposed pharmacy depot is situated at least 15km by the normal access route from the nearest pharmacy and a licensed pharmacist makes application in writing to the Agency with the following details:

  • the name of the person in charge of the proposed depot with a certification that the person is 18 years of age or older
  • details of the business structure
  • services and activities to be on offer
  • operational, premises and security plans.
