Offshore Petroleum Production Licence - Victoria

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to explore for petroleum and undertake works to recover it. The holder of an offshore exploration permit or an offshore retention lease can apply for a production licence within the permit or lease area.

Offshore petroleum mining governed by the Victorian State must be within three nautical miles of the coast. Further than this is in Commonwealth waters and all licences are granted by the Commonwealth.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • show, with adequate support, that the site is commercial
  • tender for an advertised known resources
  • provide details of relevant technical qualifications, technical advice and financial resources available
  • provide all required information and documentation, including operation plans, environmental management plans and production development plans, to the relevant authority
  • pay the prescribed fees.

Duration

Lasts as long as the life-of-field but if no operations have occurred in the last five years, the licence is cancelled.
