Mineral Exploration Licence - Victoria

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to explore for minerals in a given area prescribed under current legislation. This includes applying to the Minister to explore exempted land for coal.

This licence extends to the sea bed and its subsoil within the territorial limits of Victorian water.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Information required in application for exploration licence:

  • name, address and contact details
  • if the applicant is a company, then provide a list of the directors and copy of the certificate of registration of the company
  • area of land applied in kilometre's squared
  • attached map of 1:100,000 scale of the land applied for
  • if the land contains Crown Land, then all relevant documentation involving use of Crown Land for commercial purposes
  • the term required in years
  • estimated annual expenditure for the first two years of the licence and estimated total expenditure for entire time of licence
  • evidence of financial capability
  • names and qualifications of technical advisors
  • details of any previous experience in exploration or mining activities
  • documentation to show that the applicant is a fit and proper person
  • details of the proposed work program
  • preferred annual reporting date.

The land area intended to be explored must be between 1 and 500 graticular sections. Please note that tenement may be required.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

It is an ongoing requirement of this licence that you abide by any conditions or obligations issued by the Agency, such as regular reporting of financial, operational, equipment, technical and environmental data.

It is required that you advertise the approval of the Mineral Exploration Licence in the locality near where the licence was granted. This must be done with fourteen days of being notified of the licences acceptance. It must be advertised in the newspaper and on an appropriate website.

Duration

Up to five years with the opportunity to renew.
