Over Dimensional Light Vehicle Permit - Victoria

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to operate a light vehicle that exceeds the size limits. A light vehicle is a vehicle that is less than 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass (GVM). This permit is required if one of the following dimensions is exceeded:

  • 4.3 metres in height
  • 2.5 metres in width
  • 12.5 metres in length for a rigid vehicle
  • 19 metres in length for a combination vehicle.

Over dimensional heavy vehicles require a Mass or Dimension Exemption Permit.

Over Dimensional Light Vehicles can travel on all roads in Victoria except:

  • Mountainous Areas and Otway Areas (if vehicle is over 2.5 metres in width and/or 19 metres in length)
  • Gippsland Ranges Areas and Colac-Surf Coast Areas (if vehicle is over 3 metres in width and/or 22 metres in length)
  • Main Roads (if vehicle is an agricultural vehicle or agricultural combination vehicle)
  • Restricted routes.
