Bus Operator Accreditation - Victoria

Service summary

You will require this accreditation if you intend to operate a commercial or local bus service. A commercial bus service is one that operates a bus built with seating positions for thirteen or more adults and provides one of the following services:

  • Route bus service
  • Demand responsive bus service
  • Tour and charter bus service
  • Courtesy bus service (other than a non-commercial courtesy bus service).

A local bus service is one that operates a bus built to seat thirteen or more adults and is operated for the general public. A local bus service is not operated for hire or reward.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Any person can apply to be accredited to be a bus operator.

Ongoing requirements

You may apply for an exemption from a number of services with the appropriate application form.
