Marine Mammal Watching Tour Permits - Victoria

Description

You will need this permit to operate a vessel or aircraft for the purpose of whale or other marine mammal watching or sightseeing trips. This tour involves the transportation of passengers to a location for the purpose of observation.

Permits for vessels and aircraft are available. Exclusion zones and distance restrictions between vessels and marine animals apply.

If you intend to conduct tours in a National Park or other areas managed by Parks Victoria, then you will also need a Licensed Tour Operator Permit.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit, you must:

 

  • submit an application form
  • be of good character
  • comply with Adventure Activity Standards
  • demonstrate environmental awareness and safety
  • hold a Certificate of Survey from the Marine Board of Victoria for boats carrying passengers
  • hold a current Public Liability Insurance policy to a minimum value of $10 million with an insurer approved by Parks Victoria
  • pay the prescribed fees.

Permit holders must maintain a current public liability insurance policy with an insurer approved by Parks Victoria. Monthly return forms containing tour activities must be submitted.

 

You will need to ensure compliance with the operating conditions outlined in the regulations.
