Registration as a Greyhound Owner - Victoria

Description

You will need this registration to own greyhounds intended for racing. You may own a greyhound as an individual, or as part of a group of people (a syndicate). You can become a greyhound owner by either purchasing a pup or purchasing a greyhound that is already racing or that is soon to be racing for the first time.

A greyhound cannot compete in a racing event conducted by Greyhound Racing Victoria unless its owner and trainer are registered with Greyhound Racing Victoria. All applications are made through FastTrack and require the applicant to be a member of Greyhound Racing Victoria.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old (or have a parent or legal guardian fill out the Consent for Minors section on the application form)
  • comply with the conditions set out by the Agency.

If the greyhound is owned by two or more people, the registration must be in the name of a syndicate.

Each member of the syndicate must be registered with the Board as an owner, and appoint a delegated person who is authorised to act on behalf of the syndicate.

The syndicate must also nominate a Second Delegated Person to act on behalf of the syndicate in the event that no delegated person is available.

A person who is registered as a trainer does not need to be registered as an owner for greyhounds they own.

Please lodge your application form and any associated documents directly with the Agency. Please note that if you are registering as a syndicate or partnership you will need to register as an owner as well as registering as a syndicate or partnership, so you will need to complete both application forms. You will also be required to complete a tax compliance form.
