Registration of a Business to Install and Repair LNG Fuel Systems in Motor Vehicles - Victoria

Service summary

You will require this registration if you intend to operate a business that installs Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fuel systems in motor vehicles, or services and repairs LNG fuel systems.

This registration exists to ensure LNG fuel systems are installed safely. Repair services for which registration is required include any repair to the vehicle which involves opening the high pressure LNG lines to the atmosphere.

All LNG installations must comply with the requirements of Australian Standard AS/NZS 2739 and be fitted with an acceptable natural gas compliance plate. Compliance plates are only issued to Victorian businesses that are registered with the Automotive Alternative Fuels Registration Board.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

In order to be eligible for registration you must:

  • Undertake to comply with the Rules of Registration;
  • Pass an initial inspection of your workshop by the Board to determine whether your premises and equipment comply with Australian Standards;
  • Ensure that at least 50 percent of your employees are accredited by the Board to undertake LNG conversions and repairs;
  • Ensure that all LNG conversions or repairs are undertaken by a person accredited with the Board, or directly supervised and checked by a person accredited with the board who has at least 3 years continuous accreditation;
  • Hold a valid public liability insurance policy covering conversion and repair claims;
  • Pay the required fees; and
  • Submit a properly completed application form.

Ongoing requirements

You must immediately notify the AAFRB should there be a change of business premises or change of ownership or ABN / ACN.
