You may be required to comply with this code if you house the following laboratory animals:

  • mice
  • rats
  • guinea pigs
  • rabbits.

It establishes minimum standards which are enforceable and promotes recommendations for the housing and care of these species. This code is intended to be read in conjunction with the current Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes.

Compliance with this code of practice is not mandatory. However, by complying with this code you can demonstrate that you have met your legal obligations.
