Description

This code outlines the basic requirements for persons responsible for the welfare and husbandry of goats. It provides guidance of managers, stockmen and others on a range of requirements for the welfare of goats, including:

  • food and water
  • shelters and accommodation
  • management practices
  • protection from climate extremes and predators
  • health and well-being
  • transportation.

Compliance with this code of practice is not mandatory. However, by complying with this code you can demonstrate that you have met your legal obligations. Providing that you have complied with this code can be used as a defence against a charge of cruelty or aggravated cruelty to animals.
