Firearm Dealer's Licence - Victoria

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to operate as a firearm dealer. There are four classes of licence you can apply for:

  • Class 1: Dealing in Category A, B, C, D, E Long arms, General Category Handguns, Category E Handguns and paintball markers
  • Class 2: Dealing in Category A, B, C Long arms, General Category Handguns and paintball markers
  • Class 3: Repairing Category A, B, C, D, E Long arms, General Category Handguns, Category E Handguns and paintball markers
  • Class 4: Dealing in paintball markers.

A licence authorises you to undertake the following activities:

  • acquire firearms, parts or ammunition
  • dispose of firearms, parts or ammunition
  • hire firearms, parts or ammunition
  • lend firearms, parts or ammunition
  • transfer ownership of firearms, parts or ammunition
  • expose or offer for sale any firearms, parts or ammunition
  • manufacture or repair any firearm or parts.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be at least 21 years old
  • be prepared to have an interview with Victoria Police regarding your application
  • provide details about the business, such as name and address
  • obtain a council endorsement authorising the establishment of your business as a dealer at the address specified
  • submit to a National Police Check, with a full set of fingerprints
  • provide details of all persons employed, or proposed to be employed, in the business who will have access to, possess, carry, or use the firearms.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You must notify the agency of any changes to your address or other information detailed in your licence within fourteen days of the change occurring.

You will need to abide by any conditions imposed by the agency, including the storage, sale and use requirements, and any other restrictions in place in local council areas.
