Operate a Tourist and Heritage Railway - Victoria

Description

If you operate a heritage or tourist railway you may be eligible to participate in the voluntary registration scheme operated by Public Transport Victoria (the Tourist and Heritage Railway Group Register).

The purpose of the scheme is to enable operators to demonstrate to the public that they are committed to maintaining good business practice. Registered operators will also have access to programs and initiatives made available under the scheme.

Please note that you will also need to hold railway operator accreditation to be eligible for this registration scheme.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible to operate a tourist or heritage railway, you must:

  • operate as a non-profit entity (an incorporated association or company limited by guarantee)
  • have a committee, board or governing body that oversees your organisation
  • have a policy on working with children
  • have a business plan, asset conservation plan and marketing strategy
  • provide historical and heritage related rail services, primarily as a tourist activity and predominantly in Victoria
  • be accredited as a rail operator, or provide services on behalf of an accredited operator
  • submit the relevant form
  • pay the application fee.
