Code of Practice for the Public Display and Exhibition of Animals - Victoria

Service summary

This code is intended to provide guidance to the operation of any zoo, wildlife park, travelling animal exhibition or circus. The code provides minimum standards for the maintenance of health and for the husbandry, housing, display and disposal of wildlife and exotic animals held in confinement.

Compliance with this code of practice is not mandatory. It provides guidance on how to meet your legal obligations to treat animals humanely. However, by complying with this code you can demonstrate that you have met your legal obligations. Providing that you have complied with this code can be used as a defence against a charge cruelty or aggravated cruelty to animals.

Please contact the responsible agency for more information and to ascertain level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
