Approval of Premises for Gaming - Victoria

Description

You will need this approval to conduct gaming on your premises. Only one of the following types of premises may be approved for gaming:

  • licensed pubs
  • licensed clubs
  • licensed racing club.

This approval authorises you to have a certain number of gaming machines (poker machines / slot machines) in your club or pub, in an approved area set aside specifically for gaming.

A premises may also be approved for twenty-four hour gaming on the premises for one or more days if the premises are:

  • located in the Melbourne metropolitan area (the Melbourne Statistical Division)
  • a licensed pub or club authorised to sell alcohol at any time.

Twenty-four hour gaming may be granted as a part of this approval if the premises is within the Melbourne Statistical Division or already has a pub or club licence to serve liquor at any time.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this approval, you must:

  • obtain a planning permit allowing the premises to be used for gaming, or other evidence that the use of gaming machines complies with the applicable planning scheme
  • complete the Agency's application form
  • provide evidence of your ownership or other proprietary interest in the premises
  • state the number of gaming machines you are seeking
  • provide any additional information required by the Agency
  • pay any application fees required.

The Agency will not grant approval unless it is satisfied that:

  • your premises are suitable for the management and operation of gaming machines
  • the proposed gaming area is wholly indoors
  • approval will not be detrimental to the well-being of the local community
  • you have the authority to make the application.
