Gas Industry Licences - Victoria

Service summary

You will require a licence if you intend operate in the gas industry in Victoria. There are two types of gas industry licences:

  • gas distribution
  • gas retail.

Exemptions may be granted by an Order published in the Victorian Gazette to allow prescribed port services to be carried out without a licence.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for a gas industry licence, must prove that you:

  • have the technical capability to maintain the licence
  • are financially viable and have access to sufficient financial resources.

You must also submit the application in the approved format and attach all relevant information as set out in the attached guidance notes. Please consult the responsible agency for more information regarding eligibility requirements.

There is no application fee for these licences. However, you will be required to pay a yearly licence fee. This licence fee is determined by the Agency.
