You will require this permit if you intend to drive a restricted access vehicle on a road. A restricted access vehicle is a vehicle which exceeds one or more of the following limits:
- 4.5 tonnes (for a vehicle);
- A width of 2.5m;
- A height of 4.3m; or
- A length of 12.5m (for a motor vehicle) or 19m (for a combination).
Permits are required to operate certain types of Restricted Access Vehicles in Western Australia. These permits grant access to such vehicles to certain parts of the road Network under specific operating conditions. Permits are issued for different classes of vehicle. To operate a restricted access vehicle you will also need to hold a driver's licence in the correct class, and obtain heavy vehicle accreditation. Please note that the Agency may authorise some classes of Restricted Access Vehicles to operate without a permit. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.

- Hold a current vehicle registration for your vehicle;
- Hold heavy vehicle accreditation;
