Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to operate as a security consultant. Security Consultant licences are available in four different classes for different types of work.

You will require a licence of class one, two or three if you intend to seek out people to enter into contracts to supply items of security equipment. Each licence class authorises you for different types of items and equipment as follows:

  • Class 3: Security doors.

You will require a class four licence if you intend to be paid for investigating or advising on matters relating to watching, guarding or protecting property. You may hold more than one class of licence at the same time.

You may only work as a licensed security consultant if you are employed by a licensed security agent, unless you are a sole-trader, in which case you will also require a Security Agent Licence.

If you are an interstate visitor and hold an equivalent licence in your home state or territory, you may be able to apply for a temporary licence of up to one year. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
