You will require this permit if you intend to discharge fireworks outside for purposes other than an event. You must notify the local government at least fourteen days before the proposed use of the fireworks.
This permit does not apply to:
- Unrestricted fireworks or sparklers;
- Fireworks used under an events fireworks permit;
- Use of a cracker chain at a public ceremony;
- Use of fireworks by aircraft; or
- Fireworks used in theatrical shows, television or filming.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
To be eligible for this permit, you must submit a fireworks notice containing the following information:
- Details of your fireworks operator licence;
- The date, time, location and duration for use of fireworks; and
- Purpose of the fireworks.
You will be supplied with a written notice informing you whether the proposed use of fireworks is permitted and listing any conditions that you must comply with.
