You will require this permit if you act as the representative of a manufacturer or wholesaler of pharmaceuticals products and you intend to provide samples of poisons listed in Schedule 2, 3 and 4 of the Medicines and Poisons Act. Schedule 2, 3 and 4 poisons include pharmacy medicines, pharmacist only medicines, and prescription only medicines or prescription animal remedy.
This permit will authorise you to provide certain samples to any of the following persons:
- A medical practitioner;
- A nurse practitioner;
- A veterinary surgeon;
- A dentist;
- A pharmacist; or
- An authorised health practitioner.
Your permit will specify the manufacturer or wholesale supplier whom you represent. If you cease employment with that manufacturer or wholesale supplier, your permit will no longer be valid.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
To be eligible for this permit you must:
- Be at least 21 years old;
- Be of good character;
- Be employed by a licensed manufacturer or wholesale dealer of poisons;
- Provide a list of all addresses from which pharmaceutical samples will be obtained;
- Provide a list of all the scheduled products you will distribute on behalf of your company;
- Complete the relevant application form; and
- Pay the required fees.
