You will require this licence if you intend to collect firearms and / or ammunition. A firearm or ammunition collector's licence does not authorise you to carry or use a firearm or ammunition. You are only authorised to possess it.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old;
  • Provide a 100 point proof of identification;
  • Be a fit and proper person to hold a firearms licence;
  • Provide a Serviceability Certificate for each firearm; and
  • Provide supporting documentation that demonstrates the firearm has significant commemorative, historical, thematic or heirloom value.

Firearms collector: 3 years. Ammunitions collector: 5 years.
